The Butterfly Effect

###Sustainability ###  The "avoidance of the depletion of natural resources, to maintain an ecological balance. " That is how Oxford Languages, defines sustainability.  In reality, there can be other types of sustainability, which don't involve ecological resources. For instance, someone may be involved, with the financial sustainability of either themselves or a business. In that case, they would focus on the assets that are both coming in, and going out.  However, more often than not, when someone speaks of sustainability, they are referring to the replenishment of natural resources. The ability to maintain an equilibrium. If you cut down a tree, plant a tree. That essentially is sustainability.  It is much more involved than that. With 7.5 billion people inhabiting this rock, that is hurtling through space, we need to start thinking about generations yet to come. How what we do, or don't do, will affect those people 100 years from now?  Not much thought...

Regret

There are a lot of things which I regret which I didn't get around to doing before my stroke. One of those things, is that I didn't dedicate more time to reading some of my many books I have accumulated throughout my many days.  One of those books is "A PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE "by Rick Warren. A few weeks ago, Reverend Josh started reviewing the book,  we try to cover a chapter each week.  This week, he reviewed the first half of chapter 3. He said because it is such a large chapter, he was going to tackle it in two parts . I didn't mind at all, as I realized early on, that there was quite a bit to take in, even for just half of a chapter.  The chapter identifies five key emotions that we must learn to recognize and control, if we are to live a purpose driven life. Our lives are guided by emotions, learning to master them is crucial to our being able to reach our goals in life.   The first item on the list is guilt. Whether real or imagined, guilt has the abil...

Dear Sister

Image
My sister's eldest son, my first nephew Michael, passed away last Tuesday, October 18, 2022. My heart goes out to her and Michael's birth father, Michael Senior.  I dedicate this post to my sister Theresa, Michael Sr., Michael's daughters, and my dearly departed nephew Michael.  I can't begin to imagine the pain that losing a child must be like. She has lost three children, within the past seven years. My heart truly aches for her.  With planes, trains, and automobiles on the rise, the distance between families is increasing. It seems we sometimes go years, if not our whole lives, without even knowing who some of our family members are.  Though I knew Michael, I did not know him as well as I should have. The last time I saw him, was at my Mom's funeral, more than four years ago. Funerals are too often, becoming the impromptu family reunions of our times.  I need to start being the one who breaks this cycle of apathy. I challenge you to do the same. Get to ...

TV surfing 🏄‍♂️

I was watching a little TV the other day, and I realized that we've come a long way since the days of Dick VanDyke and Snap, Crackle, and Pop.  Being advertised, was a deodorant for your butt!  I kid you not. The product is called Lume, and the lady spokesperson was suggesting you apply it to your butt, while she made a cupping motion with her hands,  demonstrating.  She went on to talk about two people who hadn't bathed in a day. One person had what she identified, as a "Stink level " of 5 out of 10.  The other person's "Stink level ", was 0 out of 10. They applied the aforementioned product.  The advertisement seemed to suggest that bathing wasn't necessary, you could just mask your odor with their product. Mind you, there wasn't any talk about bathing being the more sanitary of the two choices. Just mention that the use of their product will make you less "Stinky ".  The commercial brings about a whole slew of questions, the answers...

Just this side of Heaven

Several months ago, we were approved for a home aide, who helps with a lot of the light-duty tasks around the house. Lending us some much-appreciated help. Her name is Heaven, and she lives about a mile down the road, with her boyfriend Josh, a friend of mine.  She is a very sweet young woman. Being a relatively new girlfriend of Josh's, I hadn't met her before. Over the past few months, I've had the opportunity to get to know her pretty well, after all, you can't help but get to know someone you allow to brush your teeth.  I must admit because Heaven is such a beautiful young woman, I was a little concerned at first, that Jonell would be jealous of her. But it was silly of me to worry, as Jonell is a confident, beautiful woman in her own right, and she knows that I love her deeply.  Most of Heaven's days are spent dusting, sweeping, or hanging laundry with my wife. In fact, she and my wife, have become good friends. I am so thankful my wife has such a good friend...

ability to change

A COOL CHANGE  Today was the first day of fall. Coincidentally, the heat wave we've also been experiencing was ended last night, by some heavy thunderstorms. We ended up with temperature drops, from the '90s, down 20 degrees or so, to around 70.  I got up in my chair today. It is something that I have been able to do for a while now. And I got to wheel outside and enjoy the cool fall weather. So cool, that I had to have them, throw a light blanket over me.  I looked out at the yard. I watched the dogs play. And I thought about how much my life has changed in the past year.  There's my car. It needs to be driven more, more than the occasional run to the mailboxes. It looks good though. How I miss driving it, and listening to the radio blast some familiar tune.  A cool breeze on my face. Off in the distance, my daughter rides her bike down a dusty, rocky road. A hawk soars on the wind currents, above my head.  My pain is about at a level of five out of ...

You got comments, thoughts, ideas? Hit me!

I guess I should have posted this a while ago. I've read all the comments to my BLOG posts, but I haven't figured out yet, how to respond to them. I need to get Celia to show me how it's done.  Believe me, I love to get them. I'm like a kid on Christmas, checking daily to see if there are any new ones that I haven't seen yet.  Whenever there is a new one, I get all giddy. Most often, I have to reread my own posts, just to find out what the context of the comment is. I would love to figure out how to reply to the comments, it would give me something else to do, to pass the time.  I believe that if I could reply to the comments, it would encourage more people to leave one. That would be a double win for me, as I would gain in getting more comments, and I would eventually have more to reply to.  I definitely would love for you to feel comfortable in leaving me your opinions and thoughts. This BLOG doesn't have to be a one way street. Perhaps your comment will encou...
