It’s the life you LIVE.
Today someone that I very much love and respect, told me that writing this BLOG is my "Why ".
It's something that Jonell has said to me before, but to be honest, I thought that was something she was just saying because she is my wife, and she felt she had to.
Finding your Why is important because it gives your life meaning. A reason to jump out of bed in the morning. I know, I know, it has been a minute, since I jumped out of anything, it is of course a metaphor, for loving what you do. You've probably heard the adage, "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. " That's what I'm talking about.
While you need to make a living, how much do you really need? When is enough, enough? Having nice things is really, we'll nice. But you have to ask yourself, are nice things more important than your joy?
If having nice things brings you joy, so be it. As I'm often fond of saying, you do you. Just remember, everything has a point of diminishing returns, even money itself.
You may really enjoy that new boat, car, or big-screen TV, but eventually, the boat's going to leak, the car will lose its shine, and the TV will be yesterday's model soon.
The point is, anything you throw your money at, is destined to be an antique or thrown into a trash heap. I've spent more than a year now, just lying in this bed, with nothing to do but reflect on my life.
I have thought about all the things I wished I'd done. All the people I wish I had spent more time with and said I love you too. Not once have I wished that I made more money. There were many times when I was younger, probably as late as 50, that I wished that I had picked a different path, and focused more on putting more money away. But I have come to realize these last few years, that I am precisely where I am meant to be.
Yes, I believe in predestination, so long as you make the right choices. However, I also believe in free will, and if you make the wrong choices, you will end up in a place where your life will lose all meaning, I believe I have made the right choices.
Even with my Locked-in Syndrome, I wouldn't go back and change a thing, for fear I wouldn't have the friends and family that I have now. Even if it meant, I could avoid my Locked-in Syndrome. Sometimes life doesn't work out as we plan. Very often it even is difficult. That doesn't mean we are not on the path we are supposed to be on. It just means that maybe it's time to put on our big boy pants and get ready to get our hands dirty.
It may not be the life that you choose, it's the life you LIVE.
It's not about how much money you make, it's about how much you love!
Powerful Truth! Thank you Bob. Brent...
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, so many people measure there success by money and what they have. I am not successful by their standards at all, but by the love I show others and the love I receive in return, I am one of the richest persons alive. It is about the love!! I love you Bob. Aunt Sue
