Joy

Something I was watching, made me think of the fact, that there are people who will never enjoy the beauty of a snowy day. Or never see the magnificence, of a ocean sunset. And will live their entire lives, but never know the beauty and tranquility, of a lush green forest, on a warm summers day. 

None of this will have much effect on who we are, or who we will become. They are just some of the wonders of this life that we have the good fortune to get to experience, if we are lucky. 

The point is, we don't know, what we don't know. Knowing or not knowing anything, does not make us greater or lesser persons. As long as we strive to be better people. 

Our life on this planet, is finite. And ends for us all, in much the same manner. None of us ever get out alive. Our time here, may seem long for us, but is in fact, just a blink of an eye, in the grand scheme of things. 

We pick a vocation, or one picks us, out of necessity. We allow it to define us, and consume one third of our existence or more. But rarely, do we find true joy. 

Happiness and joy, seem to many to be one and the same. But in reality they are very different things. 

Once you realize this fact, your life will be changed. 

Happiness is fleeting. We often define ourselves by our happiness. A bowl of brussle sprouts, may make one person very happy. While that same bowl, may make another, simply gag. A new car makes most people happy, but eventually that newness is gone, and the happiness wains. 

Joy is something different. 

It will transcend, how you feel in the moment. 

Parenthood usually brings you joy. 

You can be disappointed in your child at any given moment, but it typically, it will not steal the joy you feel, from being a parent. 

Faith, a true belief in an afterlife, regardless of how that may look for you, will also cause you joy.
