Pursing a dream with a little help from friends
I have always fancied myself somewhat of a writer. From my taking a creative writing class in high school, to my writing this BLOG, I picture myself as an Earnest Hemingway type, scribbling away on some deserted island. Don't worry, that's where my comparison comes to an end.
But if I could tweak out an existence at this writing thing, I'd be a happy man indeed. I've had my share of factory worker jobs and retail clerk gigs. And while they may be for some, they weren't for me. I was fortunate enough to have spent a good portion of my life doing something that I loved. That was being a karaoke DJ. That was a younger man's job, requiring the setting up and taking down of some heavy equipment. And while I know that my audience now comes to me as a result of my condition more than of my writing skills, I am grateful for them.
And while I'm certain that a rich man and a happy man, can be one and the same. Most often being a rich man comes at a great cost. The secret is to pursue your dream, without being the slave of the dollar bill. If you can do that, without falling prey to the shiny baubles that will undoubtedly come your way. Then you will have discovered the secret to a happy life.
Someone can always take away your houses, cars, and fine jewelry. But your happiness is yours and yours alone.
This post is also in response to those people that have expressed an interest in making a donation to me. It is by no means a way of telling you that you have to, in order to have access. But as my wife was a stay-at-home Mom and I was the sole breadwinner for our household, this incident has obviously caused a bit of stress for us.
So we are going to start a kind of sponsorship program, that allows people to contribute at a level they feel comfortable with. There is going to be a bronze level at $5 a month. A silver level at $10 a month. A gold level at $15 a month. And a platinum level at $20 a month, which will include a FREE Bedhead Bob t-shirt.
Again, you won't be forced to donate anything, and you still will have complete access to this site if you don't. But you should know that steps are being taken to form a not-for-profit that will make any donation you make, tax-deductable.
Fortunately, short-term and long-term disability, along with some savings and the generous help of some family and close friends, has seen us through this far. But the time is coming near when we have to figure out where we will be going. We are applying for social security disability, but that apparently can take some time.
So bless you and thank you, if you choose to get a sponsorship. If you decide you are just not in a place where you can do anything, bless you, and thank you for following my BLOG. I hope to continue to provide you with content that makes you look forward to my next post. Either way, know that I value each and every one of you and will always be thankful that even one person, wants to listen to what I have to say.
